Best Diets of the Year as Ranked by US News
On January 8th, 2013, US News published an article called, "US News Ranks Best Diets 2013," written by Lauren McCullen. In this very informative article McCullen informs what diets came ahead this year and why. Not surprisingly plant based diets ranked first. In the past plant based diets were considered a fab or a "possible" alternative, but not anymore. The well talked about "Mediterranean Diet" ranked highest in the plant diet section of their evaluations. Other diets that ranked high were the Dash diet, Weight Watchers and the TLC diet. While the Dash diet ranked 1st and the TLC diet ranked 2nd, The Weight Watcher's diet was the best weight loss diet.
Plant Based Diets All cancer diets are plant based diets and so if people are cured with plant based diets, what seems so strange about eating a preventative diet based on hopes for less disease including heart disease and diabetes. |
The amount of vegetarian and vegans have grown over the last year and many celebrities are changing also. Usher changed recently and urged Justin Bieber to join the ranks, but so far Beiber has not given in. While vegetarians amount to only 5% of the US population and Vegans amount to just 2%, there is mounting proof on the overall health benefits from living on a plant based diet.

Low Fat Diets or Heart Diets
The low fat diets that ranked the highest were the Dash Diet, the TLC Diet and the number one choice was the Ornish Diet. The Mediterranean Diet, Engine 2 Diet and Vegan Diet also ranked. The Ornish Diet is a diet with no more than 10% in fat and made famous by Dr. Ornish with a proven record of success. Best Weight Loss Diet US News ranked the top weight loss diets and surprisingly the Weight Watchers Diet ranked number 1. Other diets that ranked were:
The Best Diabetes Diet With Diabetes on the rise, it is not surprisingly that US News ranked the best diabetes diets. The number one ranked diet for diabetes was the Biggest Loser Diet. Other contenders were the Engine 2 Diet, Flexitarian Diet and the Mayo Clinic Diet. Conclusion While this ranking by US News is helpful, it is not the only diets that may work for you. When losing weight, choose a diet that fits you best and one you can stay on easily. Some diets are more expensive, like the Jenny Craig Diet and some have support groups, like the Weight Watcher's Diet but there are many diets that can help reduce heart disease and diabetes that may not be the highest ranking diets listed. My first thoughts come to mind is who paid the biggest bribe to be on this list. |
